On 29th September our friend, Christian Lontzek, brought the Halberstadt Pipe Band, of which he is the Pipe Major, over from Germany to visit Aberlour. They camped out in the church - yes really! - and Aberlour Parish Church kindly let them use the kitchen in their building while they were here.
Christian first visited us some years ago when he was discovered camping in the church grounds. He asked is he could play our organ, which he most certainly could, and he and his family have become firm friends. Not only is he an accomplished organist but can play a variety of wind instruments and has given several concerts in the northeast on his previous visits. As a great lover of Scotland he is especially interested in bagpipes.
At our service on Sunday 1st October Christian, who is a Lutheran Church pastor, gave the address and the band provided some rousing music at the end of the service. Watch the video here. While they were here his friend Martin, an experienced organ builder, spent some time repairing our organ which now sounds a whole lot better. Nicola, our organist, says it is playing like a new organ. We very much enjoyed having them with us and hope they will return soon.
